Cardiff City fans are urged today to back their club and the Fred Keenor Statue Fund – by buying tickets for the Deportivo La Coruna friendly on Saturday.
Cardiff City Football Club has agreed to donate £1 from every ticket sold for the game to the statue appeal. It is hoped that a crowd of around 8,000 will attend.
David Craig, project manager for the statue, said: “Proceeds raised from the Deportivo game will give a huge boost to our fundraising.
“We hope fans will get behind the Bluebirds and the Fred Keenor appeal at the same time. We’ve raised £20,000 so far and our fundraising efforts are gaining momentum.
“The fundraising committee is delighted at the continuing support of our football club.
“Fred was a true Cardiff and Wales legend and we’re very pleased at the positive response to our appeal.”
A number of fund raising initiatives are planned including a special recorded version of I’ll Be There (With My Pick and Shovel), a memorabilia auction, the sale of pin badges and bucket collections.
Fans are also playing their part by organising fundraising events, including a match between the two City messageboards on Sunday, August 22.
