Generous Cardiff City Fans Back Foodbank Appeal

We’re delighted to let everyone know that 665 items were donated by Bluebirds fans for the Cardiff Foodbank before today’s game against Luton Town.

We’ve also had a number of cash donations from supporters (to be counted) and the Trust will also be making a £100 donation to the foodbank.

We’d like to thank everyone at Cardiff City for their fantastic support along with fans and members of the Trust who volunteered.

We were delighted to welcome Cardiff City players Sam Bowen and Eli King who came along to see the food donated. They are pictured with Richard Lewis and David Craig of the Trust.

Thanks again to everyone that helped out and donated.

Foodbank Collection: Reminder

We wanted to remind Bluebirds fans that the Trust – with backing from Cardiff City – is holding a second foodbank collection before the Luton Town game on Easter Monday.

A food donation point will be set up from 12.30pm, close to the Trust office (near Gate 5). Food collected will be delivered to the Cardiff Foodbank Centre which supports foodbanks across the city.

As supporters will know, we held our first foodbank collection in December but the circumstances have worsened for many families and individuals since with massive increases in food, fuel and energy prices, resulting in more people having to turn to foodbanks for help.

Here is a list of food items most urgently needed by the foodbank: Sponge Puddings, Longlife Fruit Juice, Tinned Fruit, Instant Coffee, Custard UHT/Longlife Milk, Microwavable Rice & Pasta, Rice Pudding, Deoderant, and Chocolate Bars. April donations request list

If you can help but are unable to bring food donations, we’d be happy to accept cash or cheques at the Trust Office.

Thanks so much for your support for this worthy cause.

Safe Standing: Have Your Say

The Sports Ground Safety Authority is looking for fan feedback on safe standing at the five grounds currently taking part in the ‘early adopter’ programme.

So, if you’ve been in any of the safe standing areas – either as a home or away fan – at Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Cardiff City this year, they would like to hear from you.

As a long-time campaigner for safe standing, I’m naturally delighted that we’re finally taking these tentative steps forward. In my own humble opinion, however, what we have at present is a bit of a compromise. It’s not what I’d call ‘proper’ safe standing, like you might have experienced in Europe, at Celtic or even at Shrewsbury.

Because the seats at the early adopter grounds are not secured upright, there is a temptation for fans to stand on them. And that, of course, negates the whole point of the rails and can lead to them falling off and getting hurt.

A standing area with seats secured upright so that there is nothing that you can climb up on is clearly safer (and will in many cases mean that you have more room and that there are no protruding parts for you to bash your shins or calves against!).

Anyway, whatever your views, here’s the survey link. It doesn’t take long to complete.

Help Us Feed Families And Individuals Struggling In Cardiff

Cardiff City Supporters’ Trust – with support from Cardiff City – will hold a second foodbank collection to help those struggling to put food on the table.

A food donation point will be set up from 12.30pm, close to the Trust office (near Gate 5) before Cardiff City’s clash against Luton Town (3pm) on Easter Monday, April 18th, 2022.

Food collected will be delivered to the Cardiff Foodbank Centre which supports foodbanks across the city and the Trust hopes to carry out more collections for foodbanks in south-east Wales next season.

Trust vice-chairman David Craig and Trust board member Richard Lewis have visited the city foodbank centre to, learn about the work they do to help those in poverty, talk about the planned collection and discuss what food items are most needed.

David Craig said: “When we held our first collection for the Rhondda Foodbank in December it was already clear that many families were struggling to make ends meet.

“The situation is much worse now for many with the huge increase in fuel prices from the start of this month, rocketing food prices in supermarkets and benefit and wage rises well below inflation.”

Richard Lewis added: “It is difficult for everyone in the current climate of rising prices but those on low incomes are being forced into poverty, so the work carried out by foodbanks is even more crucial in ensuring families and individuals can eat.

“Cardiff City fans, the club, its staff and players were incredibly generous when we held our last collection and we’re sure that there will be many willing to give a helping hand to those struggling at the Luton game.”

Foodbank administer Sara Redwood said: “We’re excited to partner with the Trust. In the last financial year we provided 14,521 3-day food parcels to people in Cardiff and of this number 5,464 went to children.”

  • Cardiff Foodbank operates from eight locations across the city with 160 active volunteers.
